Secret Service agent shoots self accidentally at Camarillo range
Secret Service agent shoots self accidentally at Camarillo range

A U.S. Secret Service agent accidentally shot himself in the hip this morning at a Ventura County Sheriff's Department shooting range in Camarillo, authorities said.

The accidental shooting occurred about 9:50 a.m. at the Sheriff's department shooting range on Aviation Drive in Camarillo, said Sheriff's Spokesman Capt. Mike Aranda.

The Secret Service employee was taken to Ventura County Medical Center with a non life-threatening injury to his hip, Aranda said.

The agent was putting his gun back in its holster when it went off, Sheriff's officials said.

The agent was part of a detail in town for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth, said Doug Cohen, the resident agent-in-charge of the Ventura secret service. Cohen was at the range as other authorities collected evidence.

Huh. A fellow human, with a gun, accident happens. Do we 1) Use this to emphasize why the only people to be trusted with guns are government employees, 2) Use this as a reason to outlaw all guns - including for the police we so trust and the military or 3)Shrug it off because one of the people we have decided to trust in the US (keep in mind, all others should never be trusted and should have TSA agents at their homes because they are all potential terrorists/serial killers/shooters/etc) was just having a bad day and when folks like that have an accident you can't really use it to further your argument of taking guns away.
