Protecting Life? New Bill Says Its OK to Let Women Die
http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2011/02/04/protecting-life-bill-says-women

By Jodi Jacobson, Editor-in-Chief, RH Reality Check

One hundred members of Congress (so far) have cosponsored a bill introduced by far right Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) called the "Protect Life Act."

They want to "protect life" so much that they have written into the bill a new amendment that would override the requirement that emergency room doctors save every patient, regardless of status or ability to pay. The law would carve out an exception for pregnant women; doctors and hospitals will be allowed to let pregnant women die if interventions to save them will kill the fetus.

Yesterday, according to a report by NARAL Pro-Choice America, lawmakers inserted the new provision onto page six of H.R.358, a bill that is already jam-packed with misogynistic anti-choice and anti-woman provisions.

. . .

1. It all about the unborn
Which once it is born will not be classified would no longer be classified as a fetus and therefore not entitled to any protection of health care without proving it has insurance.

5. That's because the majority of them know that if their Mom had known
what kind of vile miscreant she was going to birth, she would have probably chosen to abort them.

10. Not Pro-Life
Just anti-abortion....they seem to have no problem with a Predator firing a missile into a village in Pakistan, where children are killed!

And they are the same fanatics that favor cutting the social programs that children might need.

So, they are anything but Pro-Life.

15. Please don't use their
language....they are NOT pro-life. They are Oppressors of Women or Anti-Women, or Anti-Choice.

Or I guess they are just a waste of human flesh.

7. I find fetus worship
to be a pathological syndrome in some, especially when you are of no value once your status changes upon exiting the womb. Sometimes, I wonder if we are dealing with people who want to return to fetus-hood, (perhaps because they are miserable in life) and project the effects of that deep problem out on the rest of us.

I wish that we could come to a consensus that pro-life would be about everyone and not prejudiced towards a fetus. Otherwise, the desire to legislate morality on the subject is not only suspect, but might represent something dangerous and destructive to society.

9. That's against medical ethics for OBs. They are required to put the woman first.
Of course all must be consented to by the woman, but they are supposed to care for her health first and foremost.

18. Not in Catholic hospitals, I'll bet....
It's a good reason for a pregnant woman to choose a hospital that isn't under the rule of the RC Church...

and refer consistently to the Republican Taliban faction, I really believe this crap would stop. Giving them respect as political opposition with whom we somehow need to find common ground continues to set us back many many decades in terms of progress and civil rights. There is no "Christian Right," only the Republican Taliban. And, they sure as hell are NOT Christians.

May they all rot in the hell they will have created for themselves.

Force those poor, to buy their overpriced loopholey policies, or die in the streets.

14. These dudes don't
believe women are human...they're just incubators for fetuses. Women are to be controlled and oppressed....it makes them feel like 'men'...important and commanding. If a woman has control over her body and life, it makes these dudes flaccid....and then angry.

Young women better step up or they'll find themselves in a back alley someday.

Nothing is really more dangerous than an insecure man who feels he has no power over women. NOTHING.

19. Lots of red meat tossed to their enablers.
Unfortunately the tidbits of flesh have been ripped from the bodies of the women who this bill will affect.

Should be renamed the "Women Are Sperm Receptacles" Act.

20. That provision would have killed me.
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 01:35 PM by Kber
Needed emergency surgery to stop massive blood loss resulting from a spontaneous miscarriage.

There was no saving the pregnancy and I almost bit the dust myself.

Interesting to know that I wasn't really worth all that bother by the staff, the ambulance driver, my friend at work who found me on the floor of my office and called the ambulance in the first place. They could have saved themselves the trouble, I guess.

I mean, so what if my husband would have had to raise our son alone. Kids are orphaned all the time, right? They'd just have to suck it up, I guess.

Also interesting to know that my daughter's life (born five years later) wasn't worth it either.

On edit...

I should have titled the post "That provision COULD have killed me." I actually have a hard time believing that the wonderful staff that fought so hard to save my life would have let me die just because some stupid law said they could.

23. We wern't talking about *your* life, silly!
*Your* life is only valuable insofar as you are a holy vessel into which God, through the amazing power of the Almighty Penis, breathes life.

Men, as possesors of Almighty Life-Creating Penises, are God-like, so of course *our* lives are always valuable.

Sincerely,

John Q. Christo-Taliban

26. This bill should be really called "Protect Misogyny"/"Protect Patriarchy"
Letting women die OBVIOUSLY is not pro-life...it's sure telling how these 100 tools consider "life." If they can still manage to get re-elected...wow I won't know what to say. Religion sure makes people cold and narrow-minded. And anti-abortionists are just plain OBSESSED with interfering with other people's lives and need to get a life themselves.
