Snow pictures from my yard
This is the squirrel cover for my birdfeeder. Feeder fell and broke in the wind. This was at 8:30 this morning:

2:00 this afternoon:

If you can tell how much snow is on the cars, you can figure out how much we've had

In my front yard:

Back yard:

These are all supposedly color pictures. It's that gray outside.

Here is a link to pictures taken by a real photographer: http://www.kansascity.com/2011/02/01/2624165/another-winter-storm-arrives-in.html

1. Couple of inches. It's pretty.
By the time the storm makes it to us, it is slated to dump up to 17 inches. It could get ugly.

4. We're supposed to get about a foot here
They just said it will snow for 8 or 9 more hours and to expect an inch an hour.

8. Gack.
We've got about 18 hours of nastiness in our future, but not continuous.

Those to the south of us in Indy and beyond could get the equivalent in freezing rain. If it happens, it will be highly destructive.

10. Kansas got off easy alright. We just got about an inch of sleet (that is now frozen solid)
Unseasonably warm weather for 3 days in a row (in the 70s), then the next day we get this?!? Crazy Texas weather...

27. Oh crap. It looked like just a couple of inches of snow
Are you thinking of adopting the Michiganders' slogan: "9 months of winter; 3 months of bad sledding?"

24. I once waited at a bus stop in
Alexandria, Virginia, waiting for a bus that never came. During the hour I waited, three inches of snow fell. THAT was a snowfall.

It was, the infamous President's Day Blizzard of 1979.

It's very windy so it's hard to tell how much we have. TV station said 3 inches at noon. It will snow for 8 or 9 more hours.

15. Ummmm......
I'm in the Tulsa metro area. I have about 18 inches of snow on the patio table under the pergola. There are drifts to 5 feet or so. My gate is frozen to the brick on the side of the house - and buried in a snowdrift. Windy and dangerously cold. Emergency responders are having a hard time navigating roads. There are several major road closures. I doubt the city owns even 10 snowplows - so residential streets will not be cleared. Reports are that some of the area Wal-Mart stores are presparing to close. American Airllines maintenance facility has closed for first time in nearly 65 years. There is supposed to be another snowstorm coming through Sunday or Monday. The good news is that there have been few reports of electric and other utility outages. Looks like even under the best circumstances, I may be housebound for at least a week.

18. If you want information about the Grand Lake area
Tulsa channel 6 news has a live chat and there are people all over northeast Oklahoma participating. THere's probably somebody from the Grand Lake area that could give you information.

They are all hanging out under my SquirrelBuster bird feeder scarfing up the spilled seeds and nuts. They are having a quacking good time outside my front door.

11. The first picture shows that the cloak on your UFO is malfunctioning
You need to fix that before the Arcturans get a bead on your location, then you'll have to flee. Opening a trans-warp corridor in Kansas will cause havok... on the corn crop... or something.

35. Johnny Depp made that movie
I would have turned the channel within a minute were it not for Depp.

Reminiscent of his performance in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

19. I'm in NW Indiana. We got maybe a half inch last night and starting
about 1:30 this afternoon it's snowing in earnest. We're under a blizzard warning from 3:00pm today thru 3:00pm tomorrow with winds predicted to gust at 50-60 miles per hour and thundersnows which could deliver four inches of snow per hour. Up to 20 inches of snow total which is down four inches from the prediction yesterday. The wind will be the problem. We have fifty acres of woods around the house which will help. My only fear is power loss. I love snow so this isn't so bad for me....I went into town, five miles away, about 1:00pm. Snow beginning to drift and stick to highway. I have a Ford Explorer XLT and could feel the wind broadsiding me.

It's definitely getting worse! I'm in KC on the Missouri side. It's hard to tell snowfall amounts because it is all blowing so much. My car only has 1/2 inch on it or so but there are spots on the deck with 8+ inches already.

30. My sister who lives in O verland Park, KS,
tells me she thinks this is the worst winter storm she's seen in the twenty-five years she's lived there.

Interstate 70 is closed from the eastern edge of Kansas City all the way to St. Louis.

And in Tulsa, the paper there isn't going to print a Wednesday edition because road conditions are so bad they couldn't be distributed. According to what I read, it's the first time since they were founded in 1905 that they've missed an edition.

At least here in Santa Fe all we really have is bitter cold: single digits, significant wind chill. We got maybe a couple or three inches of snow yesterday, but nothing like much of the rest of the country is getting.

I love looking at photos of snow. It is so pretty but I do not miss it a bit.
