Ah, Newt and Jeb....emerging from quasi-obscurity:
In today's LA Times...I wonder if they really wrote it...

During the 2008 financial crisis, the federal government reacted in a frantic, ad hoc fashion, tapping taxpayers for bailouts galore, running roughshod over the rights of bondholders and catching the American people unaware and unprepared. In contrast, we still have time to prepare for the looming crisis threatening to engulf California, Illinois, New York and other state governments.

The new Congress has the opportunity to prepare a fair, orderly, predictable and lawful approach to help struggling state governments address their financial challenges without resorting to wasteful bailouts. This approach begins with a new chapter in the federal Bankruptcy Code that provides for voluntary bankruptcy by states, a proven option already available to all cities and towns across America.

The figures for next year's budgets are staggering. California, which faces a $25.4-billion budget shortfall, will pay $100,000+ pensions to more than 12,000 state and municipal retirees this year. A Stanford study puts the state's unfunded pension obligations at more than half a trillion dollars. Illinois has a $15-billion budget deficit, prompting its governor and lame-duck Legislature to hike its personal income tax rate by 66%. New York, where 73% of the government workforce is unionized, is staring at a $10-billion deficit.

The rest at the link, if you can stomach it.

1. Here's the money quote for those who can't stomach reading the article

"Second, as with municipal bankruptcy, a new bankruptcy law would allow states in default or in danger of default to reorganize their finances free from their union contractual obligations."

2. Thank you, my dear leftstreet, for posting that ...
I could barely stand to read the damn thing myself.

I think Jeb is being groomed for a run at the Presidency.

4. He's been on my radar for a while now...
I really doubt he'll run in 2012. Whether we like Obama or not, the fact remains that he's got good poll numbers, and will most likely win re-election easily.

So Jeb wouldn't want to run just then.

Exactly as you say: Just a question of when.

And I agree: :puke:

7. The smarter brother.
Just what we need. :scared:

I can't see anyone who can challenge Jeb in 2016. Except maybe if President Palin wants to serve a second term. This is, after all, the USA.

9. This has been my worst-case-thought for some time now.
The Puglies are letting The shrieking GOPrincesses pirouette and preen in front of the cameras so when Jeb's ugly mug pops up, he'll look almost like a normal human by comparison.

They're hoping we'll have forgotten by then.

Jebbie was a signer of the original PNAC (New American Century) document that called for a major event* to trigger the fear and obedience needed for their takeover.

*such as the WTC collapses turned out to be, surprise, surprise.

And, Dear Goddess, we've still got Neil "She-was-really-friendly-but-I-didn't-think-she-was-a-prostitute" Bush and Marvin Bush to go, and thus the sons of the second (or third or whatever, I've lost count, actually) generation.

10. Yeah, he almost does look normal...
It is a scary thought.

However I refuse to worry about the other generations...

They are beyond our reach...for now. They do bear watching.

6. So when will the people begin to riot?
I think that state workers shouldn't take this sitting down or at the desk.

After all, those people voted for him.

11. All I know Miss Peg,
is if they're recommending it, there's a nasty glitch in it somewhere that robs the people even more, and I'd contend they've done quite enough of that.

He's got his crime family connections so why not put them to good use?

15. I know they'll try.
But I suspect it will be much harder for them to do that this time.

A lot more people are more aware than ever before about their history.

18. oh hell yeah they wanna run jebbie
I think it'll be in the 2020 selection though. They aren't afraid of any kind of look at behind the scene vote tabulation at this point, but it's way too early to put another in the whitehouse.

jebbies policies in Florida are just starting to gain fruit and with prickscott doing his secretive best they'll just keep on. That'll really put the nail in the coffin of the good old u.s. of a.

20. Who moved the rocks those 2 slugs were hiding under? Newt doesn't live in California.
So he ought to shut his pie hole.

As for Jeb, he should give up all of his money to restore all of the money Enron stole from California because Enron was located in Texas, and George was from Texas, and Jeb is related to George, so if you connect all the dots, I think we have a solid case against Jeb.

21. I could not agree with you more.
I was really quite surprised to see their ugly names in today's paper.

I think your ideas are right on; now, if we can only get people to pay attention...

Maybe we could stop Jeb.
