Booker to Maddow: 'I'm very upset that I'm being used by the GOP'

Cory Booker went on The Rachel Maddow Show Monday to continue his damage control efforts.

As you've no doubt heard, the Newark mayor went on NBC's Meet the Press Sunday and described as "nauseating" the Obama campaign's attacks on Bain Capital -- the private equity firm Mitt Romney ran -- for its record of laying off workers at the companies it acquired. Booker later tried to walk the comments back, but the Romney campaign and its allies pounced on them in an effort to undermine the Obama camp's attack.

Mayor, from all I have heard, you are an extraordinarily decent man.

But, you went on the Meet the Press, saying you were an Obama campaign surrogate and you had your surrogate talking points memo right there with you. You also said that an Obama campaign ad about Romney's "job creating" record disgusted you.

How can you possibly be surprised that the Republicans are using that against the Obama campaign and in favor of Romney?

2. The GOP will find ways to use you even if you're super smart.
But it's certain when you act like a dumb shit.

4. He stepped into it
He's an idiot and has no one but himself to blame
I'm hoping that this guy never rises above being a mayor because he's shown he's good at undermining Democratic talking points

I'm sure he can feel some solace in that he's receiving support from Harold Ford

5. I don't know. If he doesn't get past Mayor, it will probably not be
because he kissed up to private capital in general or Bain in particular.

Like many Democrats, both are sources of a lot of his campaign donations. If private equity capital were enabling you feed your kids, get rich and have a lot of power in the bargain, you'd love it, too.

Booker has earned a rep as a hero and he is backed by all the "right" people, literally and figuratively.

HHe is bi-partisan enough to have made a video with Christie that advances both their careers. And to make statements on MTP that prompt Romney's campaign to launch the "I stand with Cory" initiative.

Who could ask more of a New Democrat?

If Booker doesn't make at least Governor of New Jersey, I think it will be only because he will be African American in a post Obama era and Jersey has a lot of thugs.

That is not usually my go to rationale, but that is the only thing I can see standing in Booker's way in the New Democrat Party these days.
