NY mayor: Call for Occupy probe is 'ridiculous'
http://online.wsj.com/article/APa911d4a77ff24c56811bdc89e53712b9.html

NEW YORK — Mayor Michael Bloomberg says a New York congressman should spend his time getting the city more federal funds rather than calling for the government to investigate the police crackdown on the Occupy Wall Street camp.

Earlier this week, U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler urged Attorney General Eric Holder to launch a probe into allegations of excessive force used by NYPD officers against Occupy protesters in Zuccotti Park last month.

The mayor issued a statement Thursday calling Nadler's position "ridiculous."

2. What else do you expect him to say?
Bank robbers, muggers, pinch-purses and other malefactors hate investigations into their wrongdoing, too. No reason for Bloomberg not to join their august ranks.

5. NYC cops are overdue to be investigated by an outside agency
They err on the side of violence every time, they do illegal stops and searches, and the ingrained, institutionalized corruption has been handed down for decades.

While many of the arrests themselves were problematic, the treatment of those in police custody post-arrest was horrendous.

27. NY Times: Mayor and Congressman Clash on Police at Occupy Wall Street Protests
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg criticized a prominent New York City congressman on Thursday for asking the Justice Department to investigate reports of police misconduct at the Occupy Wall Street protests in Lower Manhattan.

Responding to questions from reporters, Mr. Bloomberg ridiculed the call this week by the congressman, Jerrold Nadler, for the investigation. “If he would spend more time getting us homeland security money, maybe he’d make the streets safer,” the mayor said.

“If he could get us more federal moneys,” the mayor added, “maybe we could make our schools better and we wouldn’t have some of the things that people are protesting against.”

Mr. Bloomberg’s comments, which he made during an appearance in Brooklyn, drew a swift and acerbic response from Representative Nadler, who was described as having been taken aback by the strikingly personal tone of the mayor’s attack.
