We done good yesterday- Small, but a start
HYANNIS — The woman with the thick Brazilian accent shed tears as she described how Chase Bank may foreclose on her house.

A few doors away, an elderly couple said they just refinanced and are fine, "for now."

Many others living in the homes off Barnstable Road just said, "Thank God" and "That's the truth," as Occupy Cape Cod-Hyannis protesters knocked on their doors Saturday to discuss unfair lending and foreclosure practices by banks.

About 20 protesters started the day picketing outside the Bank of America by the Airport Rotary. The bank briefly closed and had the police move the activists from the property.

The protesters then walked down the roads behind the bank distributing leaflets and knocking on doors.

2. Some people only think of Kennedy masions when they think of Cape Cod
My family and I go there every year. Cape Cod is not only fancy post card mansions. It is also a nitty-gritty,
lower-middle-class (if you were born and grew up there as a normal mortal) place where people struggle to get
by, not always successfully. We found out (9 months after the fact, unfortunately) that one friend of ours
from Wellfleet had to choose between eating and getting treated for Lyme disease. Now she is half lame.

Over the years, we have made friends with some of the locals, and it's not all lobster dinners, white mansions
and clambakes. Housing has had to be arranged for many Cape Codders who can no longer afford to live where they
were born. Mike Dukakis was involved with this effort (Mitt Romney was not).

On pickup trucks on the Cape, you can sometimes see bumper stickers saying "Native Cape Codder: Endangered Species"

3. We closed BOA for 1 1/2 hours!
They had a complete drama queen moment over our trying to present a letter of concern to the
bank branch manager. Called in 3 squad cars, then locked down the joint. I wonder if these managers now have some
kind of bat phone where they must call into bank central to activate lockdown measures when
they feel the least bit threatened. Funny thing is all 22 of us were white, average age was
about 55 yrs and some where assisted by walkers. Scary scary protesters.

The neighbor hood behind the bank holds one of the highest foreclosure levels on the Cape.
It's definitely working class, and we were welcomed heartily. The article was far more favorable
than we could have ever hoped for coming from a Murdoch owned enterprise. Our GA meets
every Friday in their local baptist church, and this was also mentioned in the paper. We plastered
the area with about 250 leaflets on telephone poles, placed in doorways. I'm thinking there will
be a bigger local presence at the next GA.

This all just feels so right.
