Just imagine.... if the daily news reports, instead of updating us every hour on the stock market and sports scores, they gave that much attention to other numbers like the literacy rate, cancer rate, number of people in poverty, math scores in schools, atmospheric CO2 levels, infant mortality, the number of people who have health insurance... (things that really matter).
And imagine, if when the math scores go up, or the poverty levels go down, or it's shown that more people have health insurance, that people stood up and cheered like they do when someone scores a touchdown today. Yay, we did it! SCORE!!!!
---
And now to Sam for our nightly report on the poverty figures which seem to suggest the economic stimulus is helping those who really need it... ...and when we come back from the commercial, Janice will give us the latest CO2 figures, possibly showing they Kyoto protocol is working... And a new report shows the literacy rate is growing faster in areas have smaller classroom sizes.
Someday, maybe....?
