4 dead in aircraft crash near Crystal Lake

Four people are dead this morning after a plane crash near northwest suburban Crystal Lake, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The aircraft crashed about 10:30 a.m. in a farm field near U.S. Route 14 and North Ridgefield Road in unincorporated McHenry County, officials said.

There was no information available about where the plane took off or where it was headed, said FAA officials, who also said the; the plane was operating on "visual flight rules." There were four people on the plane; none have been officially identified.

The aircraft was a Cirrus-SR20, according to the FAA. Here are details on the aircraft from the manufacturers' website.

2. Yeah. I keep on being a bit miffed
at those who post something local to them or their state and assume that all of us know exactly where it is.

8. I get frustrated at news media sites that don't give their location.
It's amazing. Very few TV stations identify their locations. Quite a few newspapers as well.

6. That's an annoyance for me with on-line newspapers.
One can search a whole page of a story to figure out which state the story is located. I've gone as far as to flip to the want ads section.

7. I believe that model has a ballistic parachute system.

Not that it would do any good in most take off situations or controlled flight in to terrain(due to weather/pilot disorientation).

Sad situation all around.
