'competitive shopping' wtf?
i'd call it assault......shopping's not a sport.

***********

PORTER RANCH, Calif. (KTLA) -- About 20 people sustained minor injuries Thursday night when a female customer pepper sprayed other shoppers at a Black Friday sale at a Wal-Mart in Porter Ranch.

The incident happened around 10:10 p.m. at the Wal-Mart on Rinaldi Street near Corbin Avenue.

Police said it was unclear exactly what sparked the confrontation, but it appeared to be a case of "competitive shopping."

A group of customers was trying to access some video game consoles, according to witnesses.

1. Competitive shopping will become a sport...
In the 2020 Olympics. Contestants will be armed with a spiked glove on their left hand and a can of pepper spray on their right. The prize will be displayed in the center of the arena and the last man/woman standing claims it as their own. It will be bloody glorious!

9. There would have to be a couple different categories.
Extreme coupon shoppers
Wedding dress bargains
Sample sales

3. Well you gotta understand.
They are CONSUMING ergo it's ok...

The handle in my toilet just broke, debating whether to brave the crowds at lowes or not, that's the reason.

I don't feel like taking life in hands for a plumbing part that runs less than five bucks.

11. Put a string on the chain and run it through the hole where the handle was
That will get you by for a day or two. Maybe Monday the crowds will be smaller.

I went to the local Wal-Mart last night just to see the spectacle. They had to close the front doors and only allow 30 people in at a time because the fire marshal said there were too many people in the store.

I do have to commend this Wal-Mart, they lined people up orderly for the big ticket items and gave them tickets. They had to choose to wait for that one item or be part of the mass racing for the 5 dollar movies and coffee pots. Think about it, fighting over a 5 dollar coffee pot and you win the fight by knocking some little old lady on her ass. Enjoy that coffee.

I did not participate in the Malay last night but rater returned today to get one item, guess what there were still enough of those that I got one at 8:00AM today. No hassles, no fights, no standing in line

12. Well actually if I go now I might avoid the crowds,
It is well after they opened... and get two or three, they are that cheaply made.

I usually get a few. Actually now that I think about it I might have one.

13. Thanks for the tip
I just went... and I have no clue if this is a good thing or a bad thing... I was in and out in fifteen and there were no crowds.

I'd not be able to tell it was black friday from crowd size.

14. Skip Lowes. Try ace hardware or similar local hardware store.
Edited on Fri Nov-25-11 01:00 PM by lumberjack_jeff
In my area we have a chain of hardware stores, that I can always find what I need quickly.

Lowes? Home Depot? Not so much. Besides, it's 10:00 pacific. By now the competitive shoppers are nursing a hangover and wondering how they'll explain the visa bill to their significant others.

4. They should make a reality show called Competitive Shopping
Or a SciFi movie of the future of Black Friday as it evolves into something similar to the original Rollerball and Death Race 200 where part of the plot is how many get killed deliberately and how many points one gets for the 'road kills'.
