So, You Really Want To Occupy? But....
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 07:55 PM by BeFree
...the nearest occupy is too far away?

Then plan on Occupying the next local Democratic Party Meeting.

Right close to home your voice needs to be heard and what better place than right at your closest political meeting? Sure, you're gonna piss them off, but didn't they already piss you off?

1. Why not the next REPUBLICAN party meeting?

Why do you want war on the democratic party? That makes no sense.

4. Not a great idea -- pubbies
They won't listen to ya anyway.

But at least there is a slight chance your Dems might.
But if ya do it enough, they will hear.

13. That's not the point - the point is to make ourselves heard
Not to disrupt, but to set the agenda

3. My local Dems are a thoroughly progressive group,
now deeply preoccupied with the Recall Walker actions.

I'm a lot more inclined to go down & "Occupy the Recall!" (i.e. volunteer for some background work).

14. There is this big protest going on... Occupy
You may have heard of it, if not, you should read a thread or two. Would not a protest going on during a Dem meeting disrupt it?

16. Why make up stuff, Joe?
And not answer a simple question?

But I do see you now equate talking about, even OMG! protesting, something as being bad. Gawd.....

17. I'll try to make it simple for you
Your question:

"Do you think occupying a seat at a Dem meeting is disruptive?"

My answer:

"There is this big protest going on... Occupy. You may have heard of it, if not, you should read a thread or two. Would not a protest going on during a Dem meeting disrupt it?

See, you said nothing about "occupying a seat", you changed it to that. You said "Occupying the next local Democratic Party meeting", which implies a protest at the meeting. You then tried to put words in my mouth by saying "But I do see you now equate talking about, even OMG! protesting, something as being bad" Something I never said or implied... So what did I say? I said "Why yes... Disrupt the dems and leave the repugs alone". Care to respond to that? Why would you rather protest Dems then repugs? Or have you changed it now and it is just participating? For one that accuses others of not answering, I'll ask again... What is it you want people to do?

If you are going to go into your typical game playing, I'll be done with this thread, or you can just be clear for once and not put words into other peoples mouths.

26. Hey Joe
Go Occupy yourself. If you think going to a Dem meeting and making your voice heard is a bad thing, you know where and with what you can go Occupy yourself.

WTF is wrong with you?

I'm thoroughly burned out at this point. Maybe join your local committee and support progressive ideas and candidates.I'd be glad to have you there.

30. Exactly
You too, eh? I am sick of going to meetings where if anything gets done, it's just ass kissing and brown nosing. And is why this country is in such bad shape... people don't practice democracy. But OWS is practicing democracy.

I equate "hold a protest at a Dem meeting" with "disrupt a Dem meeting". I would prefer repug meetings were disrupted.

19. What do you think is meant by Occupy?
"Then plan on Occupying the next local Democratic Party Meeting."

Using a capital like that and the way it is worded, I can imagine no other connotation. I'm all for a protest, I just think it should be the repugs on the receiving end.

20. It could mean carrying the ideas behind OWS to the meeting.
i.e., working for proposals or candidates to address the problems being pointed out at OWS protests.

23. I think both, but truly the repubs are doing exactly what they said they'd do,
it's the Dems that aren't honoring the candidate rhetoric.

24. To be sure, that is true in some cases
My solution would still be to protest the repugs. As for the Dems, I am supporting candidates that either did live up to their word or a new Dem candidate. I see no good that can come from Dems going to the nearest Dem meeting and protesting it, far to general for me when repugs are a surer target.

8. That's too far away, too
I'm in rural red state hell, my car's broken down awaiting repair, and I can't drive more than 50 miles without my fibro pain getting out of control.

It's frustrating.

Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 08:56 PM by Lionessa
as corporations and banks and wall street, they are all in collusion, right? But we only have voting access to politicians and so I say occupy the hq of parties and pols of all colors (except those that have proven by deed not just by word), and occupy them. And suggest that supporters of OWS in their area, donate to OWS instead of the party or the pol. Hit em where it hurts.

Most of what the OWS folks want is already in the Democratic platform.

It is the REPUBLICANS that are obstructing progress!

If you can't make it to one of the 300 large Occupy camps, do so where you can. And he best imo is where people who can make a difference: your fellow dems.

Why even bother the pubs? They are irrelevant.
