Pharmacy tobacco sales ban on radar
Barnstable was the first town on Cape Cod to ban smoking in restaurants, and it is poised to be the first to consider the ban of tobacco products at pharmacies and stores with pharmacies in them.

Board of Health Chairman Dr. Wayne Miller told his colleagues this week that he would like to consider similar regulations to the ones adopted by the Boston Public Health Commission.

“I believe this board has always been proactive in tobacco health issues, so I would like us to consider this,” he said at the close of the Nov. 8 meeting.

Miller noted that since Boston adopted the regulation, a number of other communities in the state have approved similar regulations.

Wonder if this would affect wal-marts and the like?

1. But junk food and alcohol are okay....
I hate smoking, but this is really stupid. Cigarettes are legal and it should be up to the individual business on whether or not to sell them.

It's the nanny state mentality at its finest.

3. Those are next...
The nanny state mentality doesn't stop at one issue. Next they'll come for fatty foods or alcohol, but they have to divide and conquer. They can get tobacco ordinances passed, but they can't ban all three at once or the entire town will be pissed. They are all for individual choice, as long as the choice is from options THEY approve of.

7. Junk food and alcohol producers can still pay off
Tobacco is unique in that politicians and regulators no longer accept bribes from tobacco companies.

Accepting grease from Bacardi and McDonalds still holds no significant downside for them.
