CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (WCAV) -- A family in northern Albemarle County is offering a large reward to find the person responsible for shooting and killing their 10-month-old Siberian Husky, Mattie.
Ed and Yvonne Scarborough have been passing out a brochure that offers $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person who shot their dog in her own front yard.
The Fray's Grant family says the shooting happened in their subdivision on Saturday Jan. 15 between the hours of 7pm and 11pm.
A veterinarian was able to retrieve the rifle bullet from Mattie and the Scarborough family has turned that piece of potential evidence over to police investigators.
The shooting is just the latest in what residents are calling a rash of unsolved crimes.
"With lots of small children and our animals in here, we're very concerned for the safety of our families and pets," said Mattie's owner, Yvonne Scarborough.
The Fray's Grant homeowner's association has planned an emergency meeting to consider security measures like gates and surveillance cameras.
