Birther Army doc sentenced
United States v. Lakin liveblogging, Day Three wrap
comments 14 Comments
By Christopher Mathews, December 16, 2010

LTC Lakin, convicted on all counts by a general court-martial, has been sentenced.

The sentence is a dismissal, confinement for six months, and forfeiture of all pay and allowances. The dismissal — the only form of punitive discharge authorized for an officer — is generally regarded as equivalent to a dishonorable discharge and cuts off substantially all benefits incident to military service. If approved by the convening authority, it will entitle LTC Lakin to automatic review of his case by the Army Court of Criminal Appeals. He can waive that review, but such waivers are relatively rare. Unless the convening authority grants a deferment of confinement, LTC Lakin will start his sentence today.

Colonel Sullivan reports that there was no reaction from LTC Lakin or from the half-dozen or so birthers remaining in the spectators’ gallery. The military judge thanked the members for their service, and excused them. The courtroom was then cleared to allow LTC Lakin privacy.

3. There are conspiracy theory idiots
and then there the real conspiracy theory idiots that are willing to throw away everything that they worked for. This moron had it all with only a couple of more years of service left he would have had a pretty hefty pension and been able to work another 15 or 20 years.

I wonder how it feels to know that you threw your life down the shitter for a really stupid reason?

5. The interesting parallel is Assange, who
would fit the description you just made and who is otherwise being lionized.

Just an observation.

12. This idiot
wasn't told to do it. Most of the vets that I know didn't have much of a choice in the matter.

This moron was led down the garden path by a bunch of really stupid people and he went skipping along the whole way. I kind of feel sorry for him I think reality hit him like a ton of bricks over the last couple of days.

13. Led down the Garden Path for 17yrs?
And where are these fools who led him?Let's see-3 deployments to war zones and all of a sudden he's refusing? Has to be some reason.

16. He's a birther
a follower of lawyer, dentist Realtor extraordinaire Orly Taitz. He didn't want to deploy because he figured that the President was a Kenyan.

On top of that he was stupid enough, or arrogant enough, to believe that he, a lousy LTC, took his orders from the President not from the brass at the pentagon.

He thought that he was going to be a hero to the birther "movement".

10. I picture him sitting there pondering how he got to this point.
I sincerely hope he has done some soul searching and realized that rumours/conspiracies on RW blogs and radio are not to be taken as gospel.

4. Good news.
Part of me feels a bit sorry for the birthers' latest pawn. Most of me, however, is fist pumping because it worked out exactly as I expected that it would.

17. Didn't he recently say that if he could go back and redo it he would,
and that he realized how wrong he'd been? My guess is that he won't be getting any birther support afterward either - he's screwed himself left, right, and center...

15. Maybe he can file suit against Fox for subliminal brainwashing.

Although most of it isn't subliminal, it's right out in the open ;)
