Last night I got a phone call from a dear close friend of Redstone...

He died in his sleep last Tuesday night.

What a man he was! Funny, wicked funny, and smart, compassionate, intelligent beyond belief...and so much more.

His loss will be felt forever by his wife, and his sons, and by us.

Who among us did not relish his stories, his calm way of seeing events? I always felt so happy to see him posting, for I knew that there would be good things to absorb and ponder in his threads...

I don't know exactly how old he was, but I don't believe he was even 60...too soon, always too soon...

Our phone calls were not frequent, but they were memorable. I was honored to hear him laugh...

My heart overflows with tears...

I remember the first time I saw him, walking into the People's Republic bar in Cambridge. He was a tall, good looking man, wearing a leather hat. I had a nice conversation with him that day. Nice guy. I also enjoyed his posts on DU.

Man, does ex have it rough. And Mrs R certainly can relate, though not on YOUR level, to how hard it must be for you to watch your ex-wife's pain and be frustrated that you can't help.

Offer my best wishes to your ex-wife, and please accept mine for you as well. It's a damn rough road you both must follow.

Now that I know this, I'll certainly understand if I ever see you getting crabby in the forums, and I'll try to offer some support if I can.

and would occasionally check in to see if there was a post from him, especially after a post when he said he didn't have long. I wasn't sure how to take that but I suspected his illness was progressing.

One thing that always stood out for me was his love for his family. My heart breaks for them losing him way too soon.

RIP Redstone. You made our DU community so much better. Rest easy my dear friend. I wish my family and I could have met you in person, I just know you would have talked some sense into that boy of mine who was in a race with you for the biggest number of concussions.

He was such an awesome, wonderful man with a great way of posting. He was so kind and generous and good. I knew he was sick but I wasn't prepared for this.

He contributed so much to DU -his warm sense of humor, his uplifting posts, his great character. I was especially looking forward to his annual Christmas message that he re-posted each year to give hope to those who were feeling depressed, sad and lonely -it was one of the most powerful and moving posts I have read in my life and gave me a lot of hope and inspiration during some very dark times. His bravery and courage throughout all his painful ordeals was amazing as well

This is sad on so many levels. I can't even begin put it into words

And my heart breaks for his wife and his children -his love and affection for them shone through in his posts. I cannot even begin to imagine what a wonderful husband and father he must have been

I can only offer my deepest, sincerest and most heartfelt thoughts, prayers, condolences and sympathies to all the family and friends of such a wonderful man. I hope they know through his postings on here that he touched the hearts and souls of countless people around the globe. I cannot imagine how much more so that must have been for those who knew him in real life. Perhaps that will be his most powerful legacy that he will leave behind.
