Dippin' Dots files for bankruptcy

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The "ice cream of the future" first has to deal with some debts of the past.

Dippin' Dots Inc., maker of the tiny orbs of ice cream that are a staple of American malls and amusement parks, has filed for Chapter 11 protection in federal bankruptcy court in the Western District of Kentucky.

The bankruptcy is the result of Dippin Dots' "failure to reach an agreement with its secured lender Regions Financial (RF, Fortune 500), following several attempts to do so," the company said in a statement.

Dippin Dots owes Regions about $10 million, according to Steve Heisner, a company spokesman.

1. Never had them...

....but they replaced the good soft serve ice cream they used to sell at the Dunkin' Donuts Center....never understood the appeal.

and contain less air, therefore it's denser than conventional ice cream.

9. Good - they had a "station" at our local museum

This was at the upswing of their supposed popularity. Overpriced, and the contract cost the museum some bucks. Popular for a short while, then it became apparent that it was no moneymaker for the museum at all.

Gone, gone, gone a after a year ir so, and good riddance.

10. As usual, by the time I find out what's "all the rage," it's pretty much "over the hill."

I don't populate malls; I don't subscribe to cable TV, and I'm barely a blip on Facebook. What a pathetic life I must lead.
