Hotels reluctant to cut rates for Republican National Convention

Earlier this week, the St. Pete Times broke the story about how RNC organizers want to lower convention-week room rates and hike commissions that hoteliers pay the RNC for the business even though officials inked a contract a year ago. The story captured our interest, prompting 16 readers to express their opinions

2. They should raise their rates. Oil companies and Wall St bankers can afford them.

4. Spraying for pests, disinfecting the towels and sheets......
They should be paying hourly, like all the other whores.

No offense to real whores. Y'all deserve far more credit.

5. Wait, is this the week contracts are sacred or not?
When fatcats sign a contract that winds up working against them, then it can be broken at whim, viz., the NBA lockout (the players are perfectly willing to keep up their end of the present contract; the billionaires who own the teams are the ones crying poor, if you can believe it). But when some poor schmuck gets snookered by a bad contract, well, it's just tough titty. Suck it up, gut it out, and learn from your mistakes, you freeloader, viz., folks who got hammered by falling home values after the real estate bubble burst.

Now we're treated to the spectacle of wealthy Republicans whining about the rates for their convention hotels, not wanting to honor the contract they signed last year. I anxiously await Reince Preibus' explanation: Are contracts sacred documents that must be fulfilled come hell or high water, or are they just pieces of paper that can be torn into confetti when it suits one party?

9. Let them sleep in the streets if they don't want to pay for their cushy hotel rooms.
