Hello everyone. My name is Steve. I am an occupier at Occupy Wall Street in New York and am currently working with the Media and Direct Action working groups. You might recognize me if you have ever watched livestream on globalrevolution or OccupyWallStNYC. I specialize in photo and video, post production and editing, as well as working as both an anchor and camera man on the livestream.com/occupywallstnyc livestream.
I have been occupying Liberty Plaza for 37 of the 44 days now, and I would just like to share with you accounts of my daily experiences with the media and direct action team, my interactions in the park as well as first hand accounts of events that I attend.

I have always been skeptical of the ways that our government is run and the backroom operations that no one hears about that they are involved in, but every time I would speak up or say something to my friends they would try to put me down, call me un-american or would lack general interest in the subject. Their minds conditioned to think that if they could watch their weekly television shows, drive a car and work a 9-5 job that everything was going to be all right in the world. Conditioned to not speak up against authority. Ever since we were little, taught never to ask questions because of what others will think, because it’s rude, because you need to fit in. Be the norm. Cookie-cutter fit, and I’m sick and tired of it.
I’m here because I want to bring out the truth and I want to raise awareness as to the ways our government and the corporations that back it are taken advantage of not only the American people, but the people around the world. I’m here because I’m sick and tired of seeing the people of this country being taken advantage of as we have our rights stripped from us, and having no one do anything about it.
(And when someone does do something about it they are labeled a criminal, a terrorist or a crazy person.) I’m here because the system that we are currently living under is no longer sustainable.
A system where 1% of the population owns more than 40% of the wealth and 70% of the money assets. I’m here because I was promised change, and it certainly wasn’t for the better. I’m here because after attending my first march, I finally have faith in humanity again.
The human mind is one of the most powerful things, and
what we occupy our minds with is what we eventually become. We must not occupy our minds with Faux News and other mainstream media that repeatedly reports lies as truths in order to keep the American people and the people of the world repressed and uninformed. We must create our own media sources, word of mouth, our own newspapers, our own websites and our own news channels. Education is so important, and we must realize that not only do we need to gather a mass following of people, but we also need to inform and educate people of the injustices caused by corporations and our government as well as the procedures we must go through to right those wrongs.
That is why I’m here.
