Senate rejects big piece of Obama jobs bill

Democrats Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut broke with Obama on Thursday's vote. Two Democrats who voted with the president, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana, said they couldn't support the underlying Obama plan unless it's changed.

1. Even with them it would still have failed. Needed 60 votes to move forward.

Prior Federal involvement with funding teachers and cops have been less than stellar. Those are local issues that need local long term solutions.

I would rather see local services taxed for locally and not run through the state or the Feds which add costs and little value. That would mean permanent revenue shifting...something state and federal gov will never agree to.
