Was she "set up" by CBS...or just suffering jet lag....
(BTW: I thought this was disinfo when I heard it on RT News this a.m. But CBS has the clip) :eyes:

Clinton on Qaddafi: "We came, we saw, he died"

By Corbett B. Daly

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shared a laugh with a television news reporter moments after hearing deposed Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi had been killed.

"We came, we saw, he died," she joked when told of news reports of Qaddafi's death by an aide in between formal interviews.

Clinton was in Tripoli earlier this week for talks with leaders of Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC).
he reporter asked if Qaddafi's death had anything to do with her surprise visit to show support for the Libyan people.

"No," she replied, before rolling her eyes and saying "I'm sure it did" with a chuckle.

Clinton says of Gadhafi: ‘We came, we saw, he died’
By Joshua Altman - 10/20/11 06:19 PM ET

Speaking between media interviews on her unannounced trip to Afghanistan on Thursday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton joked about Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi’s death.

“We came, we saw, he died,” Clinton said while talking to a reporter before the beginning of an interview.

Clinton can be heard saying “wow” when learning the news of the Libyan leaders death while setting up for an interview earlier in the day.

1. She also said that he had been reported dead many times before...
and this report was not official yet. That may have something to do with her flipness. I am no Hillary fan but I think the camera use was a little unfair here. I surprise myself sometimes!

2. Maybe her sense of humor is
the only thing that gets her through the day. She is one of the hardest working people in D.C. no matter what one thinks of her personally. Pres. Obama knew that and was a very good reason for him making her Sec of State.

4. But...it's a botch up of "I Came, ISaw and I Conquered..."
Edited on Fri Oct-21-11 11:55 AM by KoKo
And, strange that it came into her head as "We Came, We Saw and He's Dead."

It sounds imperious or a Freudian slip especially odd coming from a "Secretary of State" ..a position that is supposed to be diplomatic.

UPDATE EDIT:

Mediaite Blog has a better description of the quote from Julius Caeser:

We Came, We Saw, He Died’ Hillary Clinton Reacts To Confirmed News Of Gaddafi’s Death
video
by Colby Hall | 8:32 am, October 21st, 2011

Shortly there after, the same cameras captured the moment she learned that Gaddafi was dead, which had the Secretary of State joyously proclaiming “we came, we saw, he died!”

It’s a candid moment of joy for a senior administration official celebrating some good news. Gaddafi had been considered a despotic dictator by both parties, despite recent diplomatic efforts to normalize relations between the U.S. and Libya, nearly everyone has agreed that the world would be a better place without Gaddafi at the helm of the oil-rich and terrorist supporting nation. Further, the administration’s policy in Libya had been under attack by its detractors, though even its staunchest critics have nobly congratulated President Obama.

Some may look to deconstruct the meaning of “we came, we saw, he died” as some sort of candid admission of U.S. foreign policy and boots in the ground in Libya. But for the handful people that may not get the reference, Clinton appears to be making a play on Julius Ceasar’s famous quote of “veni, vidi, vici” which translates from Latin to “I came, I saw, I conquered.”

5. "joyously proclaiming" is a stretch of the
imagination and is misleading. That is the kind of tactic used by those who do not like Hillary Clinton. She is used to that sort of thing though.

17. Of course it was a paraphrase of Caesar's "Veni, vidi, vici".

This is Hillary we are talking about, she knew what she was saying. She wasn't celebrating his death so much as responding sarcastically to a silly question from a reporter.

11. Why is there an assumption that people may not take to her personally?
She's a lot more personable and approachable, I think, than Obama.

6. Dark humor. Nothing more. Some might find it distasteful, but I don't think it's a big deal.

7. There is no honor within the media any longer
I mean, intellectually, I've known that but there used to be a policy that you didn't show shit like that. It obviously was edited right before she said that, so unless I see the raw footage, I'm holding judgement on whether she was being as flippant as this clip is purporting her to be. I doubt that is the case since she was also being self-deprecating about her visit to Tripoli was the reason Gadhafi’s now dead.

9. I think this is the raw footage, though. Whether it was appropriate to show, though...
is debatable.

10. I think this is about what Secretary of State of the US said...and not the Ghadaffi Video...
just saying.

It was kind of a wierd thing for her to say ...unless jet lag or some other circumstance.

12. If Obama had said this shit,
the same people defending Clinton would be bashing the fuck out of Obama.

I think what she said is A-okay and I laugh at people getting their panties in a wad.

15. It smacks of American Imperialism... "I came, I saw, I conquered" ...Julius Ceasar..

said that about ROME.

It was either she was tired...or jet lagged ...or she Really Believes that US is the NEW Roman Empire.

What do you think?

Fuck Qaddafi. He lost any right to respect when he blew all those innocent people out of the air over Scotland.

16. The comment was taken out of context.
The segment that I've seen everywhere is only 12 seconds long. The other video that's been floating around is her "wow" moment when Huma passed her a BlackBerry and she read the message that Qaddafi had been captured. She found about his capture while setting up for a round of interviews. At that point no one knew whether the rumor was true since, as she said, there had been so many similar rumors in the past. She certainly didn't know that he had already been killed by the Rebels.

The comment that has upset so many in the blogosphere was in response to the reporter's question as to whether her presence in Libya had anything to do with Gaddafi's capture. She was being flippant. Anyone who knows Hillary is aware of her sarcastic sense of humor.

;)
