There's been quite a lot made of the fact that the US has sunk $1 billion into the military intervention in Libya. I thought some cost comparisons (which, of course, don't necessarily lead to ethical comparisons) would be useful here:
Operation Noble Anvil (Air Strikes Against Serb forces and infrastructure, CLINTON): $1.9 billion ($2.4 billion in 2011 dollars)
Iraq No Fly Zones (Clinton)Northern Watch: Average $165 million, every year 1996-2001. TOTAL 1996-2000: $1.6 billion (2011 dollars)
Southern Watch: Average $1.1 billion, every year 1996-2001. TOTAL 1996-2000: $5.75 billion (2011 dollars)
Total Iraq No-Fly Zone Costs, 1996-2000: $7.3 billion (2011 dollars)
