Chris Christie to endorse Mitt Romney
Chris Christie, the man who much of the sidelined establishment and donor class among Republicans had hoped would run for president, is backing Mitt Romney for president, a Romney official confirms to POLITICO.

The endorsement is expected at a 3 p.m. press conference. It was first reported by Fox News

It gives Romney a major boost heading into the latest debate n New Hampshire tonight, and is a serioues "get" as he tries to consolidate support amid Rick Perry's fade.

While the timing puts Christie out in front rather early, it will allow him to claim credit if a dam of support starts breaking Romney's way. So far, even with Perry's troubles in his campaign, it's been more like a trickle of establishment types toward Romney.

But Romney backers are hopeful that's about to change, and Christie could end up leading the charge. Just last week, Christie had suggested that he didn't see anyone among the current crop of candidates speaking to the issues he wanted addressed.
