1. finding this ironic with occupy and jobs product. 64% profit when in country would make 51%
the threads talking about having his product as he made the stuff out of country for greater profit when he could have had the jobs here at home with a healthy profit.

not to demean his death. or anything else.

but this seems a bet ironic

2. You know Apple almost disappeared in 1997?
Steve Jobs returned to the company he founded (after being fired) and saved it. He not only saved it, but he made it into the powerful company it is today.

Apple is sitting on a huge cash war-chest, but I can't fault them for doing so... The company literally came back from the brink of being wiped off the competitive landscape. They are the biggest target for destruction by every other tech competitor... They must save that cash until they feel it's time to invest... Keep in mind... Apple doesn't pay dividends to investors, and they are creating a shitload of jobs.

But, you are right... They are not manufacturing here... The entire component supply chain for every Apple product migrated from the US years ago... It's not Apple's fault that their component suppliers are elsewhere. It's a sad fact that Macs, iPhones, iPods, and iPads simply cannot be manufactured domestically.

4. from what i understand, of course they can be manufactured here. but i bet you will hear
a story with as many woes from every company that sends jobs overseas.

i like the man. i am sorry he was sick for so long. i like what he did with the company. i am sorry he is dead, though it only goes so far as someone i dont know and have no personal connection with....

that being said.

i think this calling out of corps with occupy and then glorifying jobs is ironic, at the very least

5. Nope... The component parts are all purchased from China and Korea...
It would be impossible to manufacture Apple products in the US without importing most of the chip components from overseas... at great cost. There are no semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the US capable of producing the state-of-the-art electronics that Apple requires. Unfortunately, the US gave up that manufacturing sector to China and elsewhere over a decade ago.

It's possible, you are right... But, the costs are prohibitive.

6. the report i read said profit would be at 51%. a couple decades ago the business plan was profit at
40%. for a profit to be at 51% is very healthy for any company.

10. Please clarify...
Apple's profits are not at 51%... That's not credible for any company.

What is your contention? Do you think Apple can somehow be more profitable by manufacturing in the US? If so, cite your sources.

Apple's management is legally obligated to pursue the most profitable path (for the shareholder's sake). If the most profitable path leads to manufacturing outside the US, then that's what Apple's management is obligated to do... according to current current laws and our capitalist system.

7. It didn't have to be like this.
American industrialists and politicos collaborated to offshore manufacturing. It has hurt working people. In the case of a war, we'd be in big trouble.

9. Visionary, sure, creative genius, possibly...amazing human being? No.
He was a prick. Widely known as the biggest asshole in Silicon Valley. (Google "Steve Jobs" and "asshole" and see how many hits you get.) Someone wrote a book about abusive and dysfunctional managers called "The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace", where Jobs is specifically cited as a gigantic asshole whose value to the company outweighed the benefits of getting rid of him.
