Teamsters leader James Hoffa coming to Puyallup To Protest Fred Meyer/Kroger

National labor leader and Teamsters President James Hoffa will be in Puyallup tomorrow, Sept. 9, as part of a rally to support Teamsters who are working without a contract and involved in contentious negotiations with a regional grocery chain.

According to a news release from Teamsters Local 117, Hoffa will speak at 2 p.m. The rally will begin at the Puyallup Recreation Center, 808 Valley Ave. NW, then will move across the street to the Fred Meyer Distribution Center, where 500 people work. Not all of them are represented by the Teamsters. Some 362 of them are affected by the contract negotiations, a Fred Meyer spokesperson said.

The union says its members who work at the Fred Meyer warehouse have been working without a contract since Aug. 15. The local says it has filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board, and says among other things that Fred Meyer, owned by Kroger, is not bargaining in good faith.
