Obama is a talented politician who makes some very good speeches. He's also willing to govern purely on the behalf of big business to rake in campaign cash, so long as voters will let him get away with it. And apparently, many will.

A President does not get what he wants simply by announcing it to the public. Congress people think of their constituents only; the President, the entire country.

The Senate is not set up to provide pure democracy, since each state has two no matter how few people they are; thus a Conn. Senator can override a majority made up of New Yorkers and Californians.

So the argument is not exactly equal on each side. The left seems to ignore the make up of the Senate, as if it will go away if the President just pounds the bully pulpit hard enough.

but I listened to this one because I knew there would be no mealymouthed promises, just the best of our President's oration, and he is one of the best orators in the world. I was lifted while listening and wasn't waiting for the usual stab in the back because there wasn't going to be one.

If this will somehow make him a better leader, wonderful, but I don't think it will. It gave comfort in a magnificent way and that is good. Come Monday, we're back in the cesspool that is DLC politics.

The President just used the bully pulpit to decry negative and violent rhetoric. While he did it in a uniformly positive way and didnt call out specific people, what he was saying was clear.

I'm still unhappy about still being in Afghanistan and a few other things. That does not take away from the fact that the speech was great and made people feel better about the tragedy and it ALSO indirectly criticized those who use hateful rhetoric. We all know who that is.\

#2 - No one is saying that Obama critics 'cannot offer their opinion'.
