“I would be surprised to see any other handbook as punitive as ours”
August 30, 2011
By bluecheddar

The “tools” Walker has handed to local governments are supposedly meant to help cut costs. However the changes to the New Berlin school workplace approved August 29 don’t look like mere cost-savings to me. New Berlin Education Association President Diane Lazewski agrees in MJS: “I would be surprised to see any other handbook as punitive as ours,” I should note that all details aren’t available until 9/8 and changes occur 10/1 according to a document from the blog Teachers Against Walker

Update: This 51 page Draft of School District of New Berlin Employee Handbook – Parts A and B states that it goes into effect 9/1/11

A few of the changes:

–A ‘sick bank’ which allows teachers to donate sickleave to seriously ill colleagues will be eliminated.
–No set pay for overtime; only stipends
–Elementary teachers work an added 205 hours without added pay.
–Secondary teachers work an added 95 hours without added pay.
and there are odd restrictions such as
–Dress Code: Skirts below knee, no sweatshirts, no jeans, no large logos, no open shirts, etc. and
–The loss of all microwaves, refrigerators, and coffeemakers.

1. Walker is a REAL...
...walking handjob.

Up here in Maine we have lepage, another (hopefully/probably) one-term & OUT bagger dipstick.

PEACE!

6. Anti teacher taunting? I guess I know where all the losers in school go when they graduate.

You know what? The liberal compassion in me died a little bit more reading that. Perhaps these people need to be left to their fate that they want to bring on themselves. We just need to keep the rest of us from being drug down into the tarpits with them.

Maybe we need a liberal Free State Project! It'd be even funnier if WE chose New Hampshire too, just to tick off the libertarians...

7. I'm not sure all that is legal?
The working without pay isn't legal unless they are salary and as I remember there are rules that if the employee is expected to stay in for lunch (closed lunch) that the appliances have to be provided?

13. Teachers are salaried employees
Without collective bargaining to negotiate a contract, the school board can impose anything they want. Labor laws don't apply to salaried teachers.

9. The intent is to make it as depressing as possible
to be a public servant. This is why Gov. Rick Scott wanted to add random drug tests to our benefit package.

10. I've been pissed since January, it ebbed a bit after the ...
recall elections. Now the anger has risen to where my head is about to blow up. What the fuck do these assholes want? I went to bluecheddar.net and read some of the postings. Just what the fuck is happening? Why are there even people in the audience booing teachers? You would assume that if you're attending a school board meeting, you must have some intelligence, but apparently they don't.:headbang:

14. I would avoid volunteering for any outside school activities.
I would determine if those microwaves, refrigerators, and coffeemakers were donated by the PTA. And if so would notify the PTA so they could file charges against the school for theft.
