Berkeley man makes a (really rather nice) dumpster home
Gregory Kloehn lives in central Berkeley and he makes things for a living. His latest creation may be his most inventive yet, for Kloehn has fabricated a home out of a dumpster -- yes, your regular dumpster, known primarily as a receptacle for trash.

------

Kloehn says he decided to take on this remarkable feat of engineering and design while working on a shipping container home. "I would look over the fence at a dumpster and think that it looked like a little house," he says.

15. Here in California (as well as other States, I'm sure) the ...
problem isn't so much the size of the dwelling as it is the legal to use outdoor's space around it.

Depending on where you might be located...that can be the real expense.
Here in my part of SoCal we spend year 'round outdoors and appreciate some room
to stretch out in.

8. He claims it has granite countertops and hardwood floors. . .
at 1:15 in the video, when he proclaims he went "all out" to make it as comfortable as possible.

6. I wouldn't be able to sleep as
I'd be worried some dumpster truck would come along at 4:00 am and I'd end up in the trash.

7. Nice idea,
But at 6'5" there's no way I could live in one. Couldn't stretch out to my full length, neither vertically or horizontally.

9. I've lived for a time on a small sailboat.
However, I could go out on deck to eat and sleep in good weather so it felt roomier. Looks similar.

10. Well, since the poor will need some place to live..and lean to's are not allowed..this could work!
but leave out the electricity and any permanent connection to a community.
