‘Pro-Life’ Republican Kansas Governor Guts Funding For Dying Infants
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/08/21/pro-life-republican-kansas-governor-guts-funding-for-dying-infants/

Another supposed “pro-life” governor has decided that children outside the womb are less important than those inside the womb. Kansas Governor Sam Brownback is gutting the agency responsible for child protective services, child support enforcement, and child, adult and family well-being services, after a failed attempt to slash funding for Head Start.

Despite being able to find enough money to fund faith-based initiatives, Brownback is closing 8 Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services centers, citing agency cost savings. A ninth center was saved because of public outcry.

Reducing the number of children in poverty is supposedly one of Brownback’s goals but cutting essential services that aid vulnerable children is NOT helping them stay above the poverty line. It leaves children in serious risk of dying from hunger or sickness. And the statistics are not in Kansas’ favor. The state dropped to 40th in infant mortality, and has the terrible distinction of being the worst in the country in terms of African-American infant mortality.

Governor Brownback is an enemy of children in Kansas. He is killing children with the destructive policies of the religious right, so that he can replace them all with fetuses that will be at risk after birth. It’s a sad reality we are living in, when we allow children that are already born to die in an effort to control what a woman decides about her pregnancy.

7. Our public outcry here in Lawrence saved the SRS center
only by funding it locally even though it is a state office! That's part of the trick: Republicans cut state and federal taxes that pay for essential services, and then people pay more in local taxes and fees to get those necessary services--like education and SRS offices--while Republcians brag abotu how they have saved voters so much money by cutting their taxes.

11. It wasn't public outcry that saved the center
The city and county agreed to take on the funding so the center stays open.

13. Lots and lots of his Republican voters
are calling him Sham. Lots of things are pissing them off. I just want to know exactly what they were expecting? Of course it did not help that our perfectly ready and able Democratic opponent got not one single dime from the state dems or the national dems. We were handed Sam as the only possible option if you were indeed aware there was even another option, many had no idea he had an opponent.
