My kid got a JOB!
After filling out several hundred apps all over the area, he's got a job thanks to a friend of his. He's really been through the ringer trying to find anything, and this was out of left field.

I'm thrilled for him!
And for you, of course. I know how it is to worry about your adult children.

I wish him the best of luck with his new job. :)

4. he was stuck in the twilight zone -- no work experience, so no one would hire him
But his best friend literally nagged the crap out of his boss and he got it!

8. It was really hard watching him keep applying, and getting snubbed left and right
This is a supermarket job, but with potential, and will work around school time. After he got this one another place called him, too. Talk about irony.

My son's best friend (each other's best man at their weddings) helped him get on @ Trader Joe's 3 months ago. He filled out all his health insurance paperwork yesterday. He is thrilled to have medical and dental.

I hope he keeps up with him as they continue to grow up. Those are the kinds of relationships that really matter most in life. :)

13. We've practically adopted him long before this.
He spends weekends with us, he's that close to our family.

10. My daughter got a break, too.
She got a job at the local Sonic Drive In in April and it was her first. Since we are in Texas, that has been a very hot job, so we were trying to find her something indoors. We went to a local workforce agency (government)to see if they could help out. She just got okayed for a CNA program at the local community college and they are going to pay all tuition and books! In November, she should get her certification, and job placement, if she wants it. She is excited to be going to college because she hadn't planned to. She didn't do too well in school, but did graduate high-school this spring.

Big whoop, right? Well, when you consider she has an IQ of 85, this is big. SHe struggled all thru school, barely passing each grade, a lot of times by attending summer school. Then, last year, her senior year, she made all A's and B's and she had no resource classes (special ed). Don't know what happened, but obviously a light turned on somewhere. I personally tutored her from 7th grade thru 10th grade (she lives with her mom). My goal was to just get her HS diploma, but now she is going to college and she is almost giddy about it. And to be honest, I am too!

12. Congrats! I can't imagine working at a Sonic in this heat.
Our local Sonic had a young mom, who looked to be 9 months along, working in the heat. I was stunned that she was out in the heat. She's okay, and had her baby.

I'm so glad your daughter caught such a break!

24. Congrats to both of you!
Our oldest son has been working in a grocery store for awhile and they are very good about working around his new college schedule. They'll also reimburse for certain classes up to 80%.

27. it's even more difficult -- more and more jobs being funneled thru the net
Applications, that is. At least when you could apply in person, the person hiring could be seen, and they could meet the applicant. Many times employers would decide from that meeting to give the new kid a chance.

But applying through the websites kills that option for both sides.
