Jury Convicts Pelican-Killer
VICTORIA, Texas (CN) - A federal jury convicted the owner of a fish farm of killing 90 brown pelicans, which are protected by federal law. The man didn't want the pelicans to eat his fish.
The jury convicted Khanh Vu and Seaside Aquaculture, a fish farm in Palacios, after a 2-day trial and 3½ hours of deliberation, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Vu and Seaside were indicted in April on one count of killing migratory nongame birds, in violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Vu and his employees were accused of killing about 90 brown pelicans, Pelecanus occidentalis.

4. Well, they have the mouths for it.
And if they can survive human idiocy, they will continue to have them.

5. That's a big 'if'. Brown Pelicans have existed unchanged for 20 MILLION years,
but with the advent of modern man, in the past 20,000 years, they may not see a new century.

7. They were really lucky to see THIS century
In the late 70's, they almost went extinct due to DDT poisoning.

6. OMG, they are so, so, so lucky that pelicans were delisted two years ago
Killing endangered species would bring the wrath of God down upon them. :o
