22. You are right, of course.

But in the Republican world, Big Jim characters are commonplace. For some strange reason GOP/Teabagsters can't seem to recognize these 'types' as undesirables. I guess it takes a special mindset to be a Republican.

10. He doesn't have a hope in hell of being elected.
I'm serious. After fifty years I've figured out the look that is required. I knew that Pawlenty was going nowhere. Perry will go nowhere. I can't explain exactly what it is, but in the age of television and the internet a candidate must have "the look" to be elected (or even selected) president.

So who has the look?

Obama, obviously.
Sarah Palin (I can't stand her but she has the look but she's over)
So does Michele Bachmann although I don't think that she will get the nomination - could be VP nominee though
Mitt Romney has the look

15. w did have "the look."
It's not about being handsome or looking intelligent. It has to do with looking stereotypically, comfortably middle American.

Democrats excel at nominating candidates who do NOT have "the look." Kerry didn't have it. Gore was borderline. Dukakis was an example of the opposite of the look. Bill Clinton has it. So does Jimmy Carter.

Looking back, very few presidents lacked "the look." Richard Nixon did not have the look, but then neither did Hubert Humphrey. In fact none of the candidates in 1968 had the look except Robert Kennedy. If he hadn't been assassinated, he would have won on looks alone. The Kennedys totally have the look.

This isn't a good thing. It's horrifying to realize just how shallow people are. But I think it is true.

has an urge to post his pic, please give a warning. This one I didn't need, but need to say I won't be looking at any anymore.
