Rick Perry: the Paint Creek boy who could be King.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/8694278/Rick-Perry-the-Paint-Creek-boy-who-would-be-king.html

snippets:

"He left the Democratic Party in 1989 to run as a Republican against a prominent liberal who was the strong favourite to keep his post as Texas Agriculture Commissioner."

"In contrast, Mr Perry, who has championed Israel and called for a muscular foreign policy, has the ability to appeal to all five elements of the party – fiscal, social and national security conservatives plus the Tea Party and the Establishment – without alienating any."

"That fiscal element should resonate most – his state is experiencing phenomenal growth and job creation at a time when the national economy is slumping amid fears of a double-dip recession."

“We had farm values,” he said “We got up, we worked and we knew what the dollar meant. There was no squandering money here there and yonder. Everybody struggled."

This guy is everything that Shrub wasn't. Let's call it 99% cattle, 1% hat. Came from a DIRT-POOR upbringing.... will play that populist tune and hammer Obama as being out of touch and a "quiche eater".

Ignore this guy at your own peril.

1. He's the only candidate I'm actually worried about
because he seems the closest thing to sane.

2. Oh I wouldn't call him sane... that'd be Huntsman.
But Perry is DANGEROUS. He's just as batshit crazy as Bachmann and Palin but he has the pedigree that the electorate will drool over. He will be the populist in this race and Obama will be framed as the elite...

Farm boy turned Eagle Scout turned Air Force pilot turned farmer turned politician marries HS sweetheart and leads most successful state in the US.

3. and if Perry wins the nomination...
look for a wildcard Veep pick.

Like an Eva Guzman from the Texas Supreme Court or another high profile Hispanic.

6. If the economy is still flat on its back
Edited on Fri Aug-12-11 04:31 PM by kenny blankenship
He will win. If the economy is still flat on its back in 2012, Mitt will win. If the economy is still flat on its back, even Bachmann could make it scary close - but I don't think America is quite ready yet to be ruled by the Chicken Lady.

Ignore the shitty economy, devastated job market and the drowning middle & working classes at your own peril.
