Scott Walker, Wisconsin’s controversial Republican governor, tried yesterday to give a speech to open this year’s state fair: tried, being the key word.

As he took the stage to speak, a large crowd of protesters began chanting “Change! Change! Change!” and “Recall Walker,” generating enough noise that his speech was practically inaudible.

one of those things people have a right to do,” Walker reportedly said later on. “Most people come to the fair, and they set aside politics and business and just have a good time.”

5. So, they still have freak shows at fairs, huh?
Was Scott's booth next to the bearded lady or the wolfman?

6. Were they getting ready to say The Pledge at the very end??!!!

My stepfather, born in 1905, would tell me how, at vaudeville shows if one of the acts was bombing and the audience started hooting and hollering, and booing, the orchestra would suddenly break into The Star Spangled Banner and everyone would stop and stand up to sing it.

That stopped the audience upheaval since no one wanted to be seen as unpatriotic.

Here some 90 years later, Walker is reviving that strategy to deflect angry mobs...

What a loser!!!

7. Wouldn't have stopped me.

I don't sing it anyway - quit years ago.

Just like I quit saying the pledge or bowing my head when someone calls for prayer (I'm an atheist).

It's that whole "public patriotism, public piety" thing that really annoys me.

8. So wait...let me see if I understand this:
“Most people come to the fair, and they set aside politics and business and just have a good time.”

So what was his speech supposed to be about? Isn't he always politicking...or potlicking or something?

9. I see his problem now
“Most people come to the fair, and they set aside politics and business and just have a good time.”

He doesn't seem to understand the connection between what he considers "politics" and how his politics affects the actual lives of real people every day, wherever they are.
