Was just thinking about how someone can control minds through emotions and move them to violence and Charles Manson came to mind as an example. What do you think? How far off is what Charles Manson did compared to Beck, Bill, Rush, Sara and Fox does?

1. there is no difference
Except Charles Manson had long hair and a beard.

Otherwise, same slime ball creature, just a different appearance!

:kick:

2. Some will say it's a ridicules analogy. I say it is spot on.

3. No difference, in my mind.
I thought about that last night.

4. Manson had the courage to be with his follower
when they did the dirty deeds. The ones you mention would not have that courage.

10. Manson was not at the Tate murders, but did enter the LaBianca house
Edited on Sun Jan-09-11 03:22 PM by alcibiades_mystery
He tied up the LaBianca's, then sent in Watson, Krenwinkle, and Houghton to kill them. He was apparently unhappy with the "sloppiness" of the Tate murders (i.e., two victims managed to get out of the house and had to be chased down on the lawn), so he wanted to make sure it was done "correctly" the second night. Manson then left with other members of his group, with the intention of committing other murders that night, but Linda Casabian supposedly prevented a third murder scene by pretending that the intended target was not at home when she was sent to knock on his door (she knew him).

Manson was also at the Gary Hinman murder scene prior to Hinman being killed.

The anaology with Manson is pretty silly. He directly sent Watson, Atkins, Krenwinkle, and Casabian to the Tate house, directing them to go there and murder whoever they found in the house. The analogy would only make sense if Palin had called up the suspect in this case, told him to go to Congresswoman Griffords' event, and kill her. So I've seen the Manson analogy three times here today. It's so thin that it strikes me as lazy and ignorant.

7. Similarities and differences.
Their hate fueled rhetoric inspires mentally unstable people to commit violent acts.

But, Sarah Palin does not live in a close-knit commune with her followers, nor does she give explicit instructions how to commit the violent acts.

11. Back then they didn't have Face book either. One could argue that FB is an on line commune.
There's also been many attempts to assign legal guilt to other well known artists and others who have been accused of inspiring suicide or killing cops or mass murder (Ozzy, Ice-T, Judas Priest, violent games and movies, etc). Then there's a federal law against making threats to a standing president which will give you 3 or 5 years in the pen. It seems that there is a lot of difference as to where one can draw the line.

12. Oh, thanks for reminding me about Judas Priest and Ozzy cases,
where the deranged perps / suicidal people cherry-picked song lyrics to blame for their deeds. In fact, Ozzy warned against suicide upon closer inspection. Never mind, I just blame Ozzy for encouraging me to drink whiskey, LOL.

No cherry-picking is needed with the teabaggers and Palin, however. They repeat the same murderous rhetoric and innuendoes over and over.

9.  Manson actually wanted people dead. Palin didn't.
That's a big difference.
