As the US nears the brink, the budget row is exposing Republican madness
"In 2000, Bush inherited a budget surplus, only to implement massive tax cuts – with the most going to those who needed it least – launch two wars and oversee a recession that turned into a slump...The Republican plan aims to put the burden of these military follies and that economic mismanagement on the backs of those who have suffered the most from them and bear the least responsibility for them: the poor."

1. The debt ceiling situation shows that chaos in a splintered party can be dangerous.
McConnell and Boehner can't lead, can't steer their minions. It's the opposite with a minority within their own party setting the policy. And the mentality of this political minority is fine with the prospect of Judgment Day no matter how it's invoked. Nuclear war? Great, I get to meet Jesus. International financial meltdown impervious to repair? No problem, plenty of money and I'm working.

Lacking empathy and care for others should have been the last hurdle to stop their quest to create a new country altogether. But, then again, that WAS/IS their goal.

2. Whew, good thing he isn't in office any more
Tax cuts and wars... wow, was that crazy way back when. Yep, glad those days are behind us. -_-
