Team USA invites Obama to World Cup
Edited on Thu Jul-14-11 01:17 PM by UrbScotty
The United States’ all-conquering women’s soccer team urged President Barack Obama to fly to Germany to cheer them on in Sunday’s World Cup final.

After beating France 3-1 on Wednesday to book their place in the title game, several members of the squad told how the presence of the Commander in Chief would cap off a spectacular tournament. The Americans would be strong favorites to beat Japan in Frankfurt.

Typically, the White House was tight-lipped on the President’s movements. Last summer, he was due to fly to South Africa if the U.S. men’s team had progressed to the semifinals, but Bob Bradley’s side got eliminated by Ghana in the round of 16, a clash watched by former President Bill Clinton and current Vice President Joe Biden.

It would be great if he could go. I would be surprised if he actually went, with the debt ceiling talks as they are - but it would be cool to see him cheer on Team USA!

Either way, it must hurt the right-wing media and others to see these players like Obama so much, wanting him to attend their biggest game. Yes, right-wing media - people love him! ;-)

6. Don't see how our President has time to fulfill his duties as Commander-in-Chief in view of
the amount of time Republicans require he waste as they jerk his chain on a wholly bogus issue. :patriot:

3. The right would be wailing and gnashing their teeth over the use of
AF1 being used for such a frivolous (their word I'm sure) matter.

4. The right would criticize him regardless
They will criticize him for not going and call him "unpatriotic". But if he went, the press would rip him for delaying debt ceiling talks and loony fringe would say that soccer is not a game for Americans. To be honest, I'm cheering for both because one is my home team and the other has brought happiness to people who have suffered a lot in recent months.
