"And then he has the NERVE to blame Congress. Even they aren't that stupid to try to touch
Social Security".

Overheard that just now as the final comments from one little old lady to another in the store, informing all within earshot what our "racist President" (her words, not mine) was trying to do to her by taking all of her money away.

I hope he knows what he is up against. The ones who had their mind made up about him before he was even elected REFUSE to even consider that he may be more on their side than their own party leaders. (Don't know her, just presuming with the "racist President" remark that this isn't something she dreamed up last week).

Good luck, Mr President. You are certainly going to need it for this game.

8. What do you say to someone whose reality is so far from actual reality?
Someone who doesn't think Congress would ever dare touch Social Security? She was adament and reeked of "I've already made up my mind, don't confuse me with the facts".

Wasn't worth it to say anything. The store is right across the street from me and I know the owners, so I just shook my head rather than make a scene. Owner's wife was working the register and caught that and gave me a sympathetic glance. She was likely as dumbfounded as I.

would know... be it Obama or the congress that touches SS or healthcare would be a death warrant for either of them. Its a game that they play to us fools that believe anything they say. They are the new "MAFIA"...both sides.

I have never seen her before and almost a foot taller than her. Yep - not worth starting a ruckus with a crazy person.

And when she looks quizzically at you and says she doesn't know you and people start to stare....

Just say, "It's the dementia, you know."

the words "Ignorant Asshat" written on their foreheads in indelible marker. That woman is clearly on the list.

17. I felt sad for her
She is angry and scared and because she apparently cocoons herself with RW talking points, continues to blindly support those who don't have her best interest at heart. Rinse and repeat the cycle.

19. Yes, Congress IS that stupid. They DO, however, know which side their bread is buttered on.
The President was dealt a particularly bad hand. By and large, any disagreements arise from how he chooses to play it. I certainly don't envy him.

That said, punching out a little old lady, although sometimes immensely satisfying, is generally frowned upon.

Edited on Tue Jul-12-11 05:39 PM by TheKentuckian
Framing up as "the adult in the room" isn't worth it because no one votes for "the adult in the room" that wasn't already in the fold.

We already have an uphill battle without making the water muddy and depending on this electorate to grasp nuance.

21. Little old ladies...
and little old men should be off limits from shitty comments...either to them, or about them.

They're not always crazy and they're not always asshats.

Some of them have real cognitive issues. Like maybe oncoming Alzheimers. Or dementia.

In any case, I'm really glad you let it go, for whatever reason. :)

25. It obviously wasn't worth saying anything - I wouldn't have changed her mind
Besides, I was more sad and depressed about it than angry. She is living in fear of her government from what I could gather in that brief moment and that is just depressing.

Instead of trying to show them he's trying to meet them halfway (they'll never see it) he might as well fight for a more liberal agenda (they won't hate him anymore anyway).
