Poll question: Would You Support an Extension of Troops in Iraq Beyond 2011?
This poll is for US uniformed troops only. Set aside the 5,100 private mercenaries (with their own military equipment) that will stay regardless and the 17,000 State Department employees.

We still have around 45,000 troops in Iraq. The WH and the Pentagon have been offering, hinting and pressuring the Iraqis to request an extension. All but the al Sadr bloc seem to want an extension. The number most often cited to remain is 8,500-10,000

Would you support any extension of US troops in Iraq beyond the 2011 deadline for withdrawal?

2. No, but
I suspect we'll be there forever. We're still in Germany, The Netherlands, Japan, and hundreds of other places around the world. Why should Iraq be any different?

4. You would think everyone on DU would say no. But, if and when it
happens, I guarantee it will be supported by many here.

5. I have NEVER supported troops in Iraq and I don't intend to start now.
 The very same applies to Afghanistan and any other country we may think needs attacking or occupying.

6. Yes, for a few uniformed US troops into next year, sure. It's the mercenaries that I worry about...
They tend to have the greater likelihood of stirring shit and making people hate what we do.

December 2011 is fewer than six months out, I don't see us being able to meet that deadline.

This doesn't mean I like it, if I had my way we'd never ever have gone there.

10. We won't meet it because we have no intention of meeting it.

13. This is almost certainly true.
There is no agency or entity that's ever used to effect to hold the government (Congress or the Executive) to be accountable for playing by the rules.

With our current SCOTUS there isn't much chance that this will change any time soon.

12. How much would they love us if we had bombed them with dollar bills.
We would be so much farther down the line. But there is no money for the war mongers in that. So sad!

17. I have a bumper sticker on my car that reads: US Out of Iraq.
I am not going to remove it until all the troops are out of Iraq.
