MSNBC Statement on "Indefinite" Suspension of Mark Halperin

Statement from MSNBC:

Mark Halperin’s comments this morning were completely inappropriate and unacceptable. We apologize to the President, The White House and all of our viewers. We strive for a high level of discourse and comments like these have no place on our air. Therefore, Mark will be suspended indefinitely from his role as an analyst.

Statement from Mark Halperin:

I completely agree with everything in MSNBC’s statement about my remark. I believe that the step they are taking in response is totally appropriate.

Again, I want to offer a heartfelt and profound apology to the President, to my MSNBC colleagues, and to the viewers. My remark was unacceptable, and I deeply regret it.

Statement from John Funk:

Bwahahahahaaaaaaa! Good riddance, Drudgefluffer!

Yeah ... that's a good one. Expand your vocabulary. "Drudgefluffer" -- a person whose job it is to vainly attempt to produce a natural response from Drudge. Use: "Mark Halperin is a Drudgefluffer." Use it often. Use it well.

And it was clear the whole event was pre-arranged.

It wasn’t off the cuff. In fact, Halperin asked if the control room had the “7-second delay button” ready. Apparently, they didn’t because this is what went out over the air:

34. If it was Bush
...He'd be on his way to Gitmo. I'm also tired of hearing the president referred to as "Mr. Obama", even on NPR, because some corporate big richard tells them to. With Bush it was always "President Smirky McBushhitler".

11. Halperin is a liar
the president wasn't a dick yesterday. Saying he was a dick was an attempt to move the President politically. It's like calling Obama "anti-business". Also a huge lie, but no one will get fired for it.

20. Upholding a certain standard for behavior on a news network is censorship?
He could have made his point without resulting to base name calling. Expecting on-air personalities to express themselves with a better vocabulary isn't exactly censorship.

They may not be old enough to understand now, but it will instill a horror of behaving like a Republican Dick early along and you can explain it to them later.

28. The 6 or 7 second delay is much more difficult in television
than in radio where they just have to worry about the sound.

I've been out of the broadcast TV business for several years, but when we had to do a delay on a show where you took calls from the public, the engineers had to jump through hoops to do it. So it's not done on a regular basis. Anybody who's a regular on any show should know this. He's just a dick....oops.

29. My statement to MSNBC
I am so disgusted by the comment Mark Halperin made about President Obama this morning. I'm even more disgusted that Mika and Joe egged him on and then laughed about the whole thing; truly a whole new low for Joe, Mika and the entire show.

Regardless of what Halperin thinks about Obama, he should know enough to respect the OFFICE of the President and never, ever say such a thing in the context of a tv show. He's not a serious nor respected journalist any longer and should never return to MSNBC again; Fox seems to be more his style.

Mika and Joe should be suspended as well for egging Halperin on and then joking about it until they realized the severity of the issue.

I'll start contacting advertisers of the show and asking them if they support that kind of behaviour where they spend their dollars.

Cheap and pathetic stunts like this have no place in polite society and Morning Joe just joined Fox News in the sewer as far as I'm concerned.

When O'Reilly did his "Tiller the Killer" bs no one said shit

Finally - one gets called on it

39. the show's NEW executive producer was not familiar with the seven-second delay button

Excerpt:

SNIP

Scarborough and co-host Mika Brzezinski assured Halperin that he could speak freely and anticipated a controversial remark. Halperin said:

"I thought he was kind of a dick yesterday."

Scarborough was in disbelief over Halperin's comment and quickly directed his attention off-camera, saying, "Delay that. Delay that. What are you doing?"

Halperin apologized after the hosts realized that the show's new executive producer was not familiar with the seven-second delay button.
