Any Consensus Regarding Airport Security/Screening? What Is The Best Option?
Edited on Mon Jun-27-11 06:28 PM by KittyWampus
There's another thread and it sounds like bomb sniffing dogs are now a popular idea.

I haven't flown in many, many years. But now searches may become the norm for trains.

Are there any good options to advocate for?

1. X-rays, metal detectors, bomb-sniffing dogs, pre-screening for frequent travelers, and profiling
Appropriate profiling.

2. The authoritarians amongst us would probably favor an exhaustive background check followed by tattoo
Maybe just a serial number on the forearm. Nothing too elaborate.

3. While I am not happy with xray machines,
that would have been a much better choice than making that 95 year old woman take off her diaper. I travel a lot been Florida and JFK. The worst that has happened to me was that they wanted to confiscate my New York bagles going back to Ft. Myers. "Smells good." "Can I have one?" TSA Security Guard at JFK. Yeah, they let me take them on the plane.

4. Stop making terrorists.
That would seem to be the best long term solution.

And as for the trains, don't they have to follow the tracks in some pretty remote and secluded areas? Why bother to try to carry something on the train?

9. Dogs is actually SOP for security around the world
except at US Airports. So yes, they are a logical and good option... it works EVERYWHERE else.

As to searches and trains, also train stations and your own car. There has to be a point when we collectively say ENOUGH

11. Everyone has to show up at the air port early enough to step into a booth,
Edited on Mon Jun-27-11 07:59 PM by 1monster
remove all of his/her clothing (leaving it in the booth), shower using only TSA supplied shampoo and soaps, dry off using TSA supplied towels, and put on TSA supplied flying togs. No cosmetics, lotions, after shaves, perfumes/colognes, or hair products allowed...

And please make sure you show up early enough to go through the process and still make your flight. Two days early might be enough.

12. How about giving people a choice....
Some flights are well screened. Machines...pat-downs...dogs...the whole shebang.

Some flights have no screening whatsoever. Oh, and in order to fly them, passengers must sign a waiver absolving the airline from responsibility for whatever might happen.

One end of the airport for one type, the other end for the other type.

Everyone is happy.

It would be interesting, I think, to see what the majority of people choose.
