2. It is a repeat, before Rick Scott started cutting programs.
The rat cut programs for the poor, the sick, the disabled and the children but corporate america can depend on the republicans to keep their tax cuts and taxpayer subsidies coming.

6. No, I'm not watching.........I just cry way to much for these people...
I'm on the computer, and listening to Karen Carpenter's "Don't cry for me Argentina"..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnufQVpiE70 I know, this isn't like America now. It will be very soon. Very soon. Two classes, the very, very rich, and the destitute.

7. Yes, I watched it again, and cried again....
and am STILL OUTRAGED that children go to bed hungry.

IT'S OBSCENE. When there are people with multiple vacation homes, planes, yachts, $50k friggin "sweet 16" birthday parties....these children are so graciously enduring suffering on so many levels.

WE. MUST. DO. SOMETHING.

Feed America and local food banks are doing great things, but what about those who can't GET to the food banks, especially in more rural or suburban areas without mass transportation.

I've been thinking about a program that works with local agencies and groups to identify families at risk and create an expanded Meals on Wheels concept (and include a library bookmobile feature, too).

We have to do something.

NOW.

12. Many of the Feeding America food banks now operate mobile pantry trucks
These trucks carry thousands of pounds of food - much of it fresh and perishable fruit, vegetables, dairy products that local pantries can't store - to areas without access to enough food or food assistance programs. The trucks also are useful during disaster relief.

Here's a news article about one in Connecticut (which also happens to be the state with the highest per capita income... and still lines form).

13. Thank you, Sisaruus...
I live in an area where this kind of thing isn't available, so I'm always surprised that areas DO have such programs.

Many thanks for the link.

:hi:

16. Feeding America is trying to get more trucks out to the food banks.
But the need is so great these days and we can't keep up (I work for the food bank of that news article). As Feeding America's CEO Vicki Escarra hss said, "We can't food bank our way out of this crisis." Nor should we. We need to address the broader economic injustices and not just expect food banks to keep scambling for more food donations. My food bank distributed more than 31 tons of food every single business day last month, and even that is not enough.

17. No doubt about that...
We have to address the root cause, and the obscene (and growing) wealth disparity, as we simultaneously seek to alleviate suffering as much as possible.

I'm with you on that.

8. Meanwhile GA city wants to force
homeless families out of extended hotels.
http://www.ajc.com/news/gwinnett/city-sees-no-room-980754.html
AJC headline "City sees no room for hotel living Lawrenceville officials want 45-day limit on stays enforced"

Councilman Tony Powell 'snip' got involved once more when he noticed a school bus pick up 15 children at the Villa Lodge & Suites.
'snip'
Powell said residents have voiced concerns to him about criminal activity at the hotels. He said cities have the right to make the distinction between a hotel and a home.
'snip'
Powell has the support of the Lawrenceville Neighborhood Alliance, an influential group of about 80 households that thinks unregulated hotels could continue the drop in local property values.
---------------------------------------------
If life wasn't hard enough for these families let's just kick them out on the streets.

10. Wonder how many abandoned properties -- commercial and residential...
there are in Lawrenceville that could be converted (creating jobs) into temporary housing and low-income housing?
