Puget Sound Energy, which serves much of suburban King and Pierce counties and virtually all of Thurston and Kitsap counties with electrical service, today asked the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission for approval of an 8.1 percent power rate hike.
At the same time, PSE is also seeking a 3 percent natural gas price increase. PSE serves Tacoma and much of suburban Pierce and King counties with natural gas service. In Thurston County, the company is the largest natural gas supplier.
The company says the average homeowner's electrical bill would increase by $8.37 a month if the commission approves the whole increase. That figure is based on usage of 1,000 kilowatt-hours monthly, a figure that's low for those with electric heating.
