1. So, if someone is verifiably brain-dead, yet another person wants that verifiably
brain-dead person as president, what does it make that second person?

3. Sadly true
I think it was de Tocqueville who said, The problem with Democracy is that eventually we would elect the least qualified among us to lead the country. I was pretty convinced that when we elected Bush we had arrived there. But if we were, by some cosmic convulsion, to elect Palin as President I would know that we had arrived.

5. Couldn't we just select legislators through random lottery? We'd get better results.

6. I think H.L. Mencken said it best:
"The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre – the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.

The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

7. No, I'm Sorry but She's an Empty Vessel
Sarah has nothing that people will vote for (unless maybe, they like to send stupid pictures of their ugly naked selves by email).

I have no fear of her ever being elected to anything (outside of Alaska--where one must be crazy to live, anyway).
