I hope its ok to post these two screen shots. Normally of course I would of posted an excerpt of the article with a link, but, I can't get a link to it, and, its a local *free* publication.

1. Good for Them
I hope it becomes a win-win for the folks and the ship. I would hate to see it go to the scrap yard.

Yeah San Pedro has been my home town since I was born here 44yrs ago. We may have a few somewhat bad areas, but overall I've always loved it here. Its nice to see such a landmark come here to this old waterfront town with a lot of old military history.

One thing I miss (for the couple of other folks on DU who live in San Pedro too), I miss the old Dancing Waters Club. It was like a Hollywood small rock & roll house, but, not well known outside of the locals. Anyway, back in the 80's lots of Punk bands played there. Social Distortion, Bad Religion, TSOL, Adolescents, Black Flag and quite a few others played there. Anyway I wish that place was still here.

Here's an old Dancing Waters flyer.

And for you youngsters, here's how we use to do it.... :)

5. Never been there, but sounds interesting
Now for a little battleship story....

Back in the 1960's there were discussions of bringing the Missouri to the St. Louis riverfront to sit under the Gateway Arch.

That was until the bright boys with the idea were reminded of just a few points like how much water the ship draws and that probably every bridge along the river would have to be dismantled in order for it to pass even if there was enough channel.

The idea didn't last too very long as you can well imagine.
