Wisconsin: Republicans acknowledge drug test proposal is illegal, but so what?
http://www.jsonline.com/business/123288983.html

<snip>

A proposal endorsed by the Joint Finance Committee that would suspend jobless pay for a year to individuals who either fail a drug test or refuse to take one as a condition of employment appears to violate federal law.

Vos said Monday that measure was intended to save money, though he could not say how much it would save. The Legislative Fiscal Bureau did not study the proposal.

The proposal also appears to be against federal law. Dave Roberts, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Labor said that, in general, it is impermissible for states to require, as a condition of eligibility, anything that is not related to the "fact or cause" of the person's unemployment.

Vos' motion did acknowledge that the effort might violate federal law. But in an interview, he said the state needed to do something...

<end snip>

So he doesn't know how much it will save, concedes that it's probably illegal, and proposes it anyway. What the hell is wrong with these guys?

3. They don't give a shit, and we keep trying to nail them with elections and petitions.
It's time for some serious direct action. It's been time for quite awhile, really.

5. It's pathological
just like their so-called concern for fiscal responsibility, freedom, etc. I would add too that if this ever becomes law, it WILL be challenged and then the state will have to spend MORE $$$$ defending the law. :banghead:

IMHO this whole "drug testing for employment" thing is getting out of hand. I don't think that people should have to submit to drug screens for employment purposes unless it is for jobs that requires care/supervision of children, the operation (or management) of vehicles and/or public safety jobs- in short, jobs in which impairment would directly threaten public safety. Otherwise, it should just be treated by employers as a personal performance issue-like everything else.

6. While we are at it,
how about lie detector test for all politicians? A condition of serving in office. Only for sex, lies and taxes.
