Texas man declared innocent after 30 years in prison
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 04:29 PM by tjwash
Full Story Here

Texas man declared innocent Tuesday after 30 years in prison had at least two chances to make parole and be set free — if only he would admit he was a sex offender. But Cornelius Dupree Jr. refused to do so, doggedly maintaining his innocence in a 1979 rape and robbery, in the process serving more time for a crime he didn't commit than any other Texas inmate exonerated by DNA evidence.

30 years...that's the best years of someones life taken away for a crime that he did not commit.

3. Every time I hear something like this
all I can think of is - what if it had been a murder, and he had been executed?

The science of DNA has been around for a very long time, now. What took so long?

4. Luckily, this wasn't a death-penalty case, with executions.
With DNA evidence from the 1970s, more of those are likely to turn up.

5. Maybe it's me but most of these cases seem
to be African Americans. Is it possible that they may be convicted because of the ir skin color? Nah! justice is blind in this country.

6. $2.4 million is chump change.
There's no amount of money that would give him those years back, but 80k per year is an absolute insult. Texas needs to be hurt hard when these things come to light.
