If the rapture does not happen? "That's an impossibility I can't even countenance,"

Delaware Man Among Those Predicting Weekend Apocalypse

DELAWARE, Ohio — There is a group of people who believe -- based on a mathematical equation found in the Bible -- the world as we know it will come to an end on Saturday.

At 6 p.m. on Saturday, an earthquake with more power than an atomic bomb will destroy Earth, and only those who believe in Jesus will be spared and lifted to Heaven. The forecast of the Apocalypse sounds far-fetched, but a Delaware County man is among the believers, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.

...

As for Von Harringa, he said he plans to spend Saturday praying with his family, and come Sunday he's convinced that he, along with the rest of the believers like him, will be in Heaven.

And, if it doesn't happen?

"That's an impossibility I can't even countenance," he said.

I should drive by his house blowing a trumpet and then throw some clothes/shoes on the ground

12. Making fun of the willfully stupid is not cruel.
It's fitting.

3. Gotta love anyone who can use the word "countenance" correctly in a sentence.
I feel no contempt for him, just sad for him and the others who fell for this crap.

4. But they don't read their bible. It says no man knows the hour or day.
Wouldn't you at least do a little research for such a huge claim from one man?

11. IMO, He badly wants to believe in something and ignores that which would prove him wrong.
We all do it, we deny reality and against all evidence to the contrary maintain a belief that a lover or a job or a circumstance will get better.

I think the man can't see the value in living any more and wants something to hope for, and something that will come sooner rather than later, he's ready to move on from this life, poor dude.

5. Looks like the non-event now is a probability that he won't even be able to "refudiate"

And "6 pm" is a "time-zone" thingy, so the alleged earthquake with more power than an "atomic bomb" ((snicker)) would have have to occur hour by hour in each timezone, else catch a few of the as yet unraptured with their proverbial pants down.

13. A very juicy target for derision, probably and deservedly so

I have absolutely no problems with spiritual/religious people who try to do good deeds for those who are suffering physically, financially and/or emotionally, and who live basically honest hard working lives, especially those who devote some or much of their personal time to help those who are in desperate need of spiritual guidance, even if it is based largely upon fallacies, to help them overcome their personal demons, whatever works for them....BUT not when these people use their tax-exempt status and influence to attempt to affect the outcomes of elections, and legislation in an effort to create a Dominionist/Fundamentalist governed theocracy, and/or promote, scare, and motivate others into believing in silly, ridiculous predictions like a so-called "Rapture" and/or end-times prophesies.
