The problem sort of reminds me of what happened with quantum physics. There was a period of time where the apparent "fuzzyness" of the topic provoked all sorts of people with a "everthing goes" mindset to draw all sorts of false (i.e unscientific) conclusions from the actual science, and read all sorts of ideological implications into it. That gave the whole subject a bad reputation and lead external non-experts to conclude that the whole topic was bullshit.

7. I think the subject can be fascinating.
I enjoy thinking about how and why social behaviors and mores developed. I find the emergence of reciprocal altruism to be especially interesting. However, there are certain people in this field who tend to use biology as an excuse for bad behavior, and they downplay the norms and customs that have developed over eons to control the worst of our behaviors so that we can have a civilized society.
