Starbucks sued over firing of dwarf
EL PASO, Texas -- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing Starbucks for firing a dwarf who asked for a stool to perform her job as a barista at an El Paso shop.

An EEOC statement said the lawsuit was filed Monday in federal court in El Paso. It alleges that Starbucks fired Elsa Sallard after three days of training because it deemed she’d pose a danger to customers and coworkers. The EEOC contends Starbucks’ actions violated the Americans With Disabilities Act.

4. Say what?
How does this request pose a danger. And when I lived in France you did not see women almost ready to give birth standing all day at a grocery cash register. This country is unbelievable!

7. Someone serving hot drinks while standing on a stool?
With others rushing around and past them? I've been a barrista in 2 separate places and can easily see how this might dangerous. Not to mention she probably wouldn't be able to do dishes in the sinks they have, sweep and mop, wipe tables, take out trash... etc.

8. A stool by the espresso machine would be a tripping hazard to others
Even if she only did register, there's almost no way to put a stool in such a high-traffic area without risking someone getting tripped by it.

13. Sadly, I have to agree
Most places like that have so little maneuvering room behind the counter that placing a stool in those spaces would create little more than an accident waiting to happen.

11. Is dwarfage considered a "disability" under the ADA?
Doesn't seem like it should be.

12. Of course it is.
It should be expected, given that the EEOC is the one suing.

"Dwarfism is a recognized condition under the Americans with Disabilities Act."
