What to make of John Edwards?
The Senator, not the Charlatan Psychic

Think he's out of the public eye forever?

Think he'll go to jail?

Think he'll host a variety show?

31. Working long hours on a few trials and appeals...
...I am suppose to be retired and have done mega work on:

1. A major criminal case

2. A couple of major civil cases

3. Two big appeals ~~ one in state and one out of state.

Other than that...I have been sitting on the couch, drinking coffee, eating bon-bons and watching soap operas!

Nice to have some free time. One of the cases set for trial settled last Friday and...that took care of one appeal also that concerned one litigant in the trial court case.

Heya back at cha...:hi:

11. While you are at us, Taverner, why don't you tell us whatever happened
to Mark Foley?

I've been wondering about him recently.

John Edwards, like Newt Gingrich, made his mistress his wife.

I wonder what Mark Foley did after leaving Congress.

30. National Enquirer story--
he has denied there's any truth to it:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/06/rielle-hunter-john-edwards-wedding_n_805401.html

I don't think John has any intention of marrying Rielle. I think he knows how insane she is. Going to visit the child, but that's it. Even besides the fact that it would hurt his young children, I don't think he really wants to marry the good time girl.

The blush is off the rose. Way off the rose.

22. Yes. After I saw Client 9, I really wondered about liberal
politicians' sex scandals. Ensign's conduct was just scary, but he managed to continue to serve most of his Senate term. There is a double standard here.

Gingrich was far worse than Edwards and is now a frontrunner for the presidency.

Edwards had the best ideas. Far better than Obama's. He was talking about Two Americas and our economic problems before it was a glimmer on anyone else's screen.

Edwards featured stories about closed factories. No other politician did that.

I backed Edwards because he was the only candidate who spoke for me. I was extremely disappointed about his personal problems. And afterwards, it occurred to me that he knew he would never win. His campaign did not really disseminate materials to its volunteers, etc. But at this point I am very glad that he raised some of the issues he did.

He advocated for Medicare for All to be implemented gradually over time. Because of his stances on the environment, the economy and health care, he forced all the candidates to talk and formulate policies on those issues. So, after the bitterness and the feeling of being let down has subsided, I am grateful to John and Elizabeth Edwards for having entered the race. They could have lived their lives with much less pressure had they not done it.

Obama has never dealt with the issues that Edwards raised that were so important to me -- not in a good way at any rate. So if I had it to do all over again and even if I knew that he had cheated on his wife, considering he was the only candidate other than Kucinich who really represented the interest of the American people, I still would have supported him.

I like Kucinich, but I understand that he is just too good for most voters. They don't understand a person as honest and good as Kucinich. And, of course, we don't know about his past wife or wives.

35. I figure having your teenaged kid die
kind of gives you a pass to be a fuckup as well. I am not saying I liked what he did, but anyone who ever lost a kid knows how bad it screws you up. Anyone who thinks it does not completely change things in a marriage have no idea either.

36. Perhaps, but he cheated on his soulmate
And for all practical purposes, she (Elizabeth Edwards) was

He did not cheat before this even, that we know of...

But maybe he did?

Either way, I think we can at least pass judgement for what he did

And when he was Senator, he was your typical bluedoggie

Voted for Iraq, etc etc...

Wheras Spitzer was fighting the fight

Hypocrite, yes. Results, also yes.

The same cannot be said for Edwards.

25. ^^This^^
That is the discussion to have, the double standard between "fallen" public figures in the Dem and Repub camps.

As for JE, he's a completely private citizen now and IMO should be left to repair his relationships with his children.

27. Well Arnie has always been known as a womanizer
he even joked about it when he was Gov. and Maria isn't sick and dying. Of course I know you're right, repugs always get away with it easier. I guess saying "God has forgiven me" is enough for their people to let it go. :puke:

32. I don't "make" anything about him
He has to live with the fact that he made the remaining years of his wife's life miserable, and someday his children will hold him accountable.

I hope he's invested wisely, because his income-stream has pretty much dried up, and all but one of his kids are pretty young.

He has to live with the fact that he's a coward too. A brave man would have owned up to the fact that he was no longer in love with his wife (even if she was ill), and would have divorced her and accepted the scorn he would have received
